Scoring the AP 2d Art & Design Portfolio
Mind map by Casandra R
The scoring rubric is fairly complex... and may be one of the reasons you need our advice and guidance.
When you look at the ratings of 1, 2 or 3 on the rubric for the Sustained Investigation (see chart at bottom left), you can think about a score of 2 as passing and a score of 3 as excellent. Each section of the rubric is scored by a team of AP College Board readers and then averaged by a statistician to give a final score. The Scoring Rubric for the Selected Works (see chart at bottom right) looks more like the Final Score you will receive after submitting your portfolio. Both the Sustained Investigation and Selected Works scores are averaged together to create your Final Score. Ultimately, an averaged score of 3 is passing, 4 is above average, and 5 is the best. We are highly trained by the College Board and have experience to explain the concepts behind each part of the scoring rubric so that you know exactly where and how to present your portfolio at its best.
